What we collect

We collect:

• Personal information such as your name, age, gender, location, and contact details.
• Profile information like photos, preferences, bio, and religious background.
• Health information you choose to share on your profile, such as disabilities, long-term conditions, mental health and smoking habits.
• Guardian or walī details (if applicable).
• Identity verification data, including the selfie and identity document you provide.
• Messages and communication between users.
• Membership status from Apple, Google or Stripe, depending on where you subscribed. We never see or store your card details.
• App usage and technical data (device info, IP address, push notification identifiers, and the essential cookies our website needs to work).

How we use your information

We use your information to:

• Create and manage your account.
• Help match you with compatible users.
• Keep the app safe and secure.
• Check that your profile photos follow our photo rules and show you, by comparing them with your verification selfie.
• Improve our service and fix technical issues.
• Send you the updates you sign up for, and one message on launch day if you leave your mobile number: a text for UK numbers, or WhatsApp for numbers from outside the UK.
• Comply with legal requirements.

We never sell your personal data.

Legal basis for using your data

We process your data based on:

• Your consent (for things like photos and optional details).
• Your explicit consent for your religious background, any health information you share, and the face check that compares your selfie with your ID and photos.
• Our contract with you (to provide the app and its features).
• Our legitimate interests (to improve and protect the platform).
• Legal obligations (where required by law).

Sharing your data

We only share your data with trusted partners who help us run the app: our hosting provider, Sendbird (in-app messaging), Firebase (push notifications), ComplyCube (identity and document verification), Amazon Web Services (automated checks on your profile photos, including comparing them with your verification selfie, run in the UK), Stripe (payments), Klaviyo (email updates and launch-day texts), and WhatsApp (launch-day messages to numbers from outside the UK). Payments made in the app are handled by Apple or Google.

If you have a walī or chaperone on Suhba, they are part of your chats with your matches and can see everything sent in them.

Some of these partners store data outside the UK, such as in the United States. When they do, we use the protections UK law requires, such as approved contract terms.

Our website counts page views without cookies and without identifying you. We do not use advertising trackers.

We may also share information if required by law or to protect the safety of users.

Data retention

We keep your data only as long as needed to provide the service or meet legal requirements.

If you delete your account, we remove or anonymise your data within 30 days unless we must keep it for safety or legal reasons.

To stop someone using a new account to get around a block or a safety report, we keep a scrambled copy of your identity document number after your account is deleted. It can’t be turned back into the number, and we keep no name or photo with it. We keep it for 12 months after deletion, or for as long as the block stands if your account was blocked. We use it only to tell our review team when a new account uses the same document, and to carry over any blocks members made on the old account.

Data security

We use encryption, secure servers, and restricted access to protect your information.

No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to keep your data safe.

Your rights (UK GDPR)

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data.
• Correct inaccurate information.
• Delete your data (“right to be forgotten”).
• Restrict or object to how we process it.
• Request a copy of your data.
• Withdraw your consent at any time.

Age limit

Suhba is for users aged 18 and over. We do not collect information from anyone under 18.
