Child safety standards

Suhba is a matrimonial service for adults. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation, on Suhba or anywhere else. This page sets out what we prohibit, how to report a concern and what we do when one reaches us.

Who can use Suhba

You must be 18 or over to hold a Suhba account. We check this in more than one way:

  • Every member enters their date of birth when they join. The app and our servers both refuse a date that makes the member under 18.
  • Every member scans a passport or driving licence and takes a selfie. The date of birth on the document is compared with the one entered, and the selfie is compared with the document.
  • A member of our team reviews the document, the selfie and the first profile photos before the member can match or message anyone.
  • Guardians who join on behalf of a family member are adults too, and go through the same identity check.

If we find that a member is under 18, we remove the account straight away.

What we prohibit

We do not allow any content or behaviour that sexualises, exploits or endangers a child. This includes:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM), whether real, generated, drawn or described in words.
  • Grooming, solicitation or any attempt to contact a child through Suhba.
  • Sextortion, trafficking or any other exploitation of a child.
  • Sharing, requesting, advertising or linking to any of the above, inside or outside the app.

This applies to profiles, photos, voice notes, messages and anything else a member can put on Suhba. Breaking these standards leads to a permanent ban and a report to the authorities.

How to report a concern

You do not need to be certain, and you do not need to be matched with the person. Report in one of these ways:

  • In the app, open Report from the menu on any profile or from within any conversation. Choose the closest reason and describe your concern under Other. Say that it involves a child and it goes to the front of the queue. Reporting someone also blocks them, and they are not told who reported them.
  • Guardians can report and block from the profiles and conversations they oversee.
  • Email team@suhba.app with the subject “Child safety”. Anyone can use this route, including people who do not have a Suhba account.
  • You can also report directly to the authorities. In the UK that is CEOP for grooming and online abuse and the Internet Watch Foundation for images and videos. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.

What we do with a report

Every child safety report is handled by our designated child safety contact and treated as the most urgent thing we have. We:

  • Review it the same day it arrives and ahead of every other report.
  • Suspend the reported account while we look, so the person cannot contact anyone.
  • Remove the content and permanently ban the account if the report is upheld.
  • Preserve the account, the content and the message history as evidence rather than deleting it, so it is available to law enforcement.
  • Report the matter to the authorities described below.
  • Tell the person who reported that the report has been acted on, without sharing details of the other account.

We never distribute or view suspected abuse material beyond what is needed to act on a report and pass it on.

Reporting to the authorities

Where a report involves suspected child sexual abuse material or a risk to a child, we report it to the relevant authority and cooperate fully with any investigation:

  • In the UK, suspected abuse material goes to the Internet Watch Foundation and suspected grooming or contact with a child goes to CEOP, part of the National Crime Agency. Where a child may be at immediate risk we contact the police directly.
  • Where the law of another country requires it, for example a report to NCMEC in the United States, we make that report too.
  • We respond to lawful requests from law enforcement and preserve evidence for as long as they ask us to.

Compliance with child safety law

Suhba Tech Labs Ltd complies with the child safety laws that apply to it, including the UK Online Safety Act 2023 and the Protection of Children Act 1978, and with the child safety policies of the Apple App Store and Google Play. We review these standards at least once a year and whenever the law or our service changes.
